Green cabinetry in the kitchen is a color that homeowners either love or hate.  Depending on the shade, green cabinets can range from yellowish avocados to deep hunter greens.  If green cabinets are the cabinets of choice in a kitchen remodel, finding the perfect flooring to coordinate with them can be challenging.  Consider all options before choosing the one that will work the best in the kitchen in question.

Matching Color

For some homeowners, too much green is a good thing.  For those who love the shade of their cabinets, the same color tile can be purchased to create a seamless transition from cabinetry to flooring.  Tile comes in all shades, and a matching green should be relatively easy to find.  Use a color matched grout for a monotone look, or opt for a contrasting white or cream for a definite kitchen statement.

Light and White

Green cabinets can easily overwhelm a kitchen if they are done in a non-subtle shade.  To draw some of the attention away from the cabinets and focus it on other areas of the room, opt for flooring that is light or white in color. This lets your direct focus to a unique wood wall art or beautiful copper tree wall art instead.  Tile is an obvious choice for kitchen floors.  It is easy to clean and typically inexpensive, especially in white or light colors.  If choosing a white tile floor, also go with white grout, as it looks cleaner and less busy.  Instead of tile, rolled laminate flooring or laminate tiles can also be installed.  It is less expensive than ceramic tile and comes in patterns and designs that may offer flecks of the green on a light background.  Large home improvement stores, as well as, flooring stores, usually carry this type of flooring too.

Wood Flooring

For a unique look and a way to bring a natural, earthy feel into the kitchen, choose wood flooring to go with the green cabinets.  Light wood flooring will lighten up the green cabinetry and make the room feel fresh and vibrant.  Darker wood floors will also give the room a unique look, but it will be one more of sophistication than an earthy feel.  Many laminate wood floors today are easy for the average do it yourself homeowner to install as they can be cut with a table saw.  The floors then float over a vapor barrier layer that keeps moisture from seeping up from underneath and damaging the boards.  Easy click systems allow the boards to snap together for the easiest of installment processes.  Choose laminate wood flooring that is stain resistant and, if possible, designed specifically for kitchen areas.  These special boards are more durable and work well in a high-traffic area where spills are common.

Choose the flooring that best accents the green cabinetry in the way desired.  Whether choosing to accent it or to subdue its green color, there is flooring available that will work best for each effect.  Choosing the perfect kitchen floor in a room with green cabinets will create a beautiful and welcoming feel to the room.
